The dilemma of planting a front garden. We offer durable and sustainable solutions in weed protection for your species-rich and well-kept front garden.

Whether it is a narrow front garden, an extensive back garden or even a small border next to the patio, every surface needs to be appealing and tidy. More than anything, species-rich vegetation catches the eye, stands out and impresses. Unfortunately, it is also very labour-intensive, so that lately the trend has been towards more sterile garden designs. This is, of course, a major concern for many environmental activists. With floral species on the decline in our towns and villages, there may be unwanted consequences for animal species and micro-organisms. Like many local councils, who have taken responsibility and instigated floral diversity schemes, every owner of a private garden is to a certain extent responsible. All said and done, it’s in everyone’s interest to have gardens with great biodiversity, whenever possible. On the other hand, we all depend on quick and effective solutions and applications, to reduce maintenance to a minimum. So what should we keep in mind when planting a biodiverse garden? How can anti-weed fabrics and irrigation contribute?

The right way to the target!

Different situations require different solutions. When planning and planting a garden, we should clear up several factors in advance, so that we may choose the right materials for the optimal and lasting protection against weeds. Factors like seasonal influences, the lifespan of the selected plants, the garden’s location, its water supply and prevalent local weeds, to name but a few. What could a solution for a well-tended and species-rich garden look like?

Protecting many species of plants with DuPont ™ Plantex® Gold

When choosing a suitable weed control fabric, the location should be taken into account. On a busy road many seeds may be thrown into the air, allowing weeds to spread faster and creating local concentrations of weeds. It is then advisable to choose a weed control fabric for persistent weeds, such as our DuPont ™ Plantex® Gold with 125 g / m2. The fabric is easy to process, does not fray when cut and allows for cutouts of any shape and size when planting. Depending on the plant, we recommend a cross slit or a small circular slit in the fabric for planting purposes. The hole should be kept as small as possible, so that weeds have minimal room to interfere with the shoot. With a pre-treated surface, fresh soil and the accessories described in our manual, the selected area takes little time to cover. To ensure its long-term UV-resistance, the weed control fabric should be covered. A popular choice of cover are the different kinds of natural looking mulch.

What does DuPont ™ Plantex® Gold do for my front garden?

On the one hand it protects my newly planted vegetation against weeds and makes it easier for me to maintain the area. The material has a high density and tensile strength, which is crucial for its effectiveness against weeds. DuPont ™ Plantex® Gold is made of a chemically inert compound of partially recycled base material. It does not react with other substances and, consequently, does not release harmful substances into the soil. On the other hand, properly and well-installed fabric may be used as a long-term solution for representative gardens. For example, the small slits in the fabric may be used again and again for different seasonal plants in the same spots. You can plant tulips in spring, set out carnations in summer and switch over to begonias or dahlias in autumn. Weed protection remains active and you still have a varied sea of flowers in your garden. What are you waiting for?
