Plantex® RootProtector project | Zuidas Amsterdam, NL
Plantex® RootProtector prevents root uplift on AFC football pitches.
At the Zuidas in the municipality of Amsterdam, five new artificial turf pitches are being laid at the Amsterdam Football Club (AFC) at the Goed Genoeg sports park. This comprehensive project is being carried out by Sallandse United. To prevent root uplift on the sports pitches, Sallandse is using Plantex® RootProtector.
Water-permeable root barrier
There is significant tension between trees and root growth in urban environments. This is also the case in Amsterdam, where root barrier systems are regularly employed. As the sports park is situated close to the water and there were plans to plant trees along the water’s edge, the local council was looking for a product that could prevent root uplift.
It was essential to ensure that the pitches were not affected by root uplift at any time. Furthermore, the product had to be water-permeable to prevent any erosion. It also had to be of such high quality that it would last for at least 25 years.
For these reasons, Sallandse United opted for Plantex® RootProtector. This is the only water-permeable root barrier with proven effectiveness (8 mm/s) that can be installed both vertically and horizontally. Furthermore, the screen allows air and nutrients to pass through and improves soil stability. The thin fibres, made from 100% polypropylene and fully recyclable, are so strong and smooth that roots cannot gain a foothold on them and therefore cannot grow through them.
