Plantex® Platinium project I Winterswijk, NL

10/06/26

Plantex® Platinium makes former dumping ground in Winterswijk accessible again.

Other methods proved to be unsuccessful

For years, the large site of the former waste dump in Winterswijk at Driemarkweg was inaccessible due to the uncontrolled growth of Japanese knotweed. Several times, various attempts have been made to control the invasive plant. Among other things, electricity was used. This method proved time-consuming and the terrain too large.

A challenging location

Because of the previous function of the site, there were also restrictions when it came to controlling Japanese knotweed. For instance, no digging was allowed and because the site borders a nature reserve on one side, existing vegetation had to be taken into account. The fact that the dumpsite is a large “hill” made the site especially difficult to manage.

Covering with Dupont™ Plantex® Platinium

In the end, the decision was made to cover the area with Plantex® Platinium. This material does not absorb or desorb; Therefore, it does not harm the surrounding nature area.

For the installation, a combination of a specially developed sewing and adhesive technique was used, so a suitable cover could be created on site.

The good water and air permeability ensures that sufficient nutrients pass through; the soil under the material remains in perfect condition. Extra important because of the nearby nature area. The location will be replanted and given back to nature.
